Seven Seas to hold Benefit Barge Party for Messer

April 10, 2019
By ED FRANKS (efranks@breezenewspapers.com) , Pine Island Eagle

Jim Frock, owner of Seven Seas Bait and Tackle in Matlacha, will have a benefit "Barge Party" for the family of Bokeelia resident Johnny Messer Satur-day, April 20, from 1- 5 p.m.

Messer, 32, was the victim of a boating accident last week when he fell from a boat and drowned in Pine Island Sound. The incident is under investigation by Florida Fish & Wildlife.

"Johnny was such a wonderful young man," Frock said. "He came to a number of our dock parties, Johnny was always friendly and I'll always remember him with a big smile."

The scheduled entertainment is Damon Fowler, a former Anna Maria Island resident and well know musician in Southwest Florida. Fowler recorded several critically and commercially successful albums for Blind Pig Records as a solo artist and with his group Southern Hospitality.

"This island has a huge heart," Frock said. "I'd like to invite everyone to come to this fundraiser for Johnny and his family. I encourage people to come by boat because there's very little parking. I hope to see you Saturday."

The barge party will be held behind Seven Seas Bait and Tackle, which is located at 4270 Pine Island Road, Matlacha. Call 239-283-1674 for additional information.
