With a few rule changes in effect, the 21st annual Memorial Bobby Holloway Jr. Fishing Tournament will be held this Saturday, March 30, at the Pineland Marina at 13921 Waterfront Drive, Pineland.

A mandatory Captains' Meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, March 29, at Monroe Canal Marina at 3105 Stringfellow Road, in St. James City.

The Lil Bobbers Captains' Meeting was held Tuesday, March 26, at Centennial Bank at 5551 Sunset Lane, in St. James City.

It was 22 years ago that the Holloway family and Pine Island lost 11-year-old Bobby Holloway in a tragic hunting accident. Bobby was well known on the island and loved to fish, boat and hunt. He also played football and baseball, loved his school and classmates and teachers and had lots of friends.

Following the accident, Bobby's friends and family got together to organize the first Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Fishing Tournament. Businesses donated money and prizes, commercial and recreational fisherman came from near and far, giving up their earnings and their boats for the day, and other benefactors gave generously to raise thousands of dollars for the children of Pine Island.

This annual tournament is now a tremendously popular spring event and now includes the Lil Bobbers Tournament. It draws sponsorship and participants from throughout Southwest Florida, raising much needed funds for the youth of Pine Island. The Bobby Holloway, Jr. Memorial Fund provides enrichment for virtually every local youth activity in education, sports, the arts, and more - from learning to swim to earning a college degree.

In 2012, an endowed fund was established at the Southwest Florida Community Foundation with a gift of $5,000 from someone who heard Bobby's story. Through the generosity of others, the endowed fund will grow in perpetuity. Annually, a portion of the earnings will be available to further fund enrichment for Pine Island youth, the mission of the Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Fund.

Donations to the Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Endowment Fund will be part of an ever-growing group of supporters and believers who wish to help the youth of Pine Island today and into the future. Visit www.hollowaytourney.org/ for more information.

"Bobby showed us all what matters most is how you make people feel and the legacy that you leave behind," Holloway Squires said. "I hope everyone comes down to PIneland Marina for some seafood and BBQ and join in on the huge raffle and silent auctions."
