Last Thursday, students at Pine Island Elementary School presented Dave Grueser, president of Pine Island Food Pantry, with 932 canned foods for the pantry.

"I'm always grateful for all the hard work the students and teachers put into helping the Pine Island Food Pantry," Grueser said. "And I can tell you, all of us at the Food Pantry appreciate everything Pine Island Elementary does for us.."

Supplies at the food pantry sometimes run low and it's frequently at the times when the need is greatest.

Grueser reported that the total weight of the donation was 726 pounds.

There were several classes that participated in the collection. Mrs. Dooley's 4th grade class won 1st Place in collections and Mrs. Acosta 2nd place.

"Although we had a few obstacles this year, everyone worked very hard accomplish this," Exceptional Student Education teacher Tina Garris said. "I'm always very proud of our students and our school."
