Small Business Saturday celebrated in St. James City

November 29, 2018

Last Saturday was Small Business Saturday for local businesses. Heather Schwarz, a small business owner of Olde Florida Outpost, has been celebrating the holiday shopping tradition for three years.

"I really want to get a better understanding out in our community of what Small Business Saturday is," Schwarz said. "Major retailers have Black Friday as their big shopping day, and on-line businesses have Cyber Monday, but American Express designated the Saturday in between for small mom and pop businesses and that's what all of us on the island are, individually owned and operated.

"This is especially important for Pine Island this year because of the water issues we faced," Schwarz said. "Shopping 'small' is shopping local and this is a great time to find the perfect Christmas or holiday gift and support your local businesses at the same time."
