Sunny skies and a warm fall breeze welcomed hundreds of costumed Pine Island children to the Kiwanis Club's annual Fall Festival.

"This is our fifth year at Pine Island Elementary School," Pine Island Kiwanis chairperson Tonya Player said, "but this festival has been going on for more years than I can remember at least 20 years."

A "goody bag" containing candy and treats was handed out to every child as they passed through the gate.

The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Department and Lee County EMS arrived early to hand out treats.

"It's all about the children of Pine Island," Fire Chief Ben Mickuleit said, "providing a venue where children of all ages can trick or treat safely."

"We've had a record number of sponsors and great participation this year," Player said.

Businesses and organizations involved in the event included Pine Island Elementary, Honc Industries, Women of the Pine Island Moose (especially Glenda and Sherrie), Pine Island Fire Department, Pine Island Pizza, Pine Island Pest Control, Shawn Kinney at Edward Jones, Exceptional Aluminum, Centennial Bank (provided more than 400 hot dogs!), Pine Island Playhouse, PILOT (Pine Island Leaders of Tomorrow) program, Lazy Flamingo, Lee County Mosquito Control, Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, Pine Island Lions Club, Pine Island Little League, El Pollo Rico, Monroe Canal Marina, Yucatan Restaurant, Pine Island Public Library, Beth Helm with Usborne Books & More and First Baptist Church of Pine Island.
