This Sunday, May 21, Sandbar Productions will hold a "Dock Party'" at Seven Seas Bait and Tackle featuring blues guitarist RJ Howson. The party runs from 1- 5 p.m.

"RJ Howson is known as a blues-rocker," owner Jim Frock said. "He started playing the big venues on the Chicago Blues circuit like Buddy Guy's Legends, Rosa's Lounge, Kingston Mines, Blues on Halstead and many other clubs in the Windy City."

Howson has since relocated to Florida where he's been busy playing a steady stream of shows all over the state. He played the Thunder By the Bay festival in 2012, the Dan Toler Benefit with Dickey Betts headlining, the Save the Gulf Festival, the Rock the Park festival and the Bonita Blues Festival in 2014.

"Howson has played music since he was a child," Frock said. "He's played everything from Chicago blues to funk, soul, rock, gospel, country and even salsa. His finger picking was inspired by Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Water's and is unparalleled."

In a recent review of his new album, The Bradenton Times said, "RJ Howson stays true to his Chi-town blues roots, while still giving fans plenty of the funky, psychedelic flavor that helps him stand out in a crowded field of up and coming local music talent."

"This is a musician's musician," Frock said. "RJ Howson is a singer-songwriter-guitar player with a distinct sound all his own. "I encourage people to come by boat. There's very little parking and this is a great excuse to get out on the beautiful waters of Pine Island and Matlacha. I pay for the band but donations are welcome to help defray the costs."
