In January 2017, the Greater Pine Island Water Association contracted with Stevens and Layton to install new 8- and 4-inch PVC water mains, 128 water services up to the water meter and 13 fire hydrants for fire protection throughout the area outlined.
For Phase 1, the contractor began on Genesee Parkway at Stringfellow to the end of Genesee Parkway. They also worked up the side streets of Flint and Argentine courts. Phase 2 represents the remainder of the outlined area. Phase 1 had a projected completion date of June 14 and Phase 2 Oct. 12. Phase 1 is ahead of schedule. The project cost is $874,111 and was competitively bid to achieve this.
This work is part of a budgeted, planned, neighborhood improvement project. The Phase 1 water main has been pressure tested. The water main will be chlorinated next, tested and then individual water services will be connected to the new water main. There will be a brief service interruption when the service line to your home is disconnected and then re-attached to the new water main. Restoration is under way in Phase 1 and work will commence on Phase 2 in the next week.
GPIWA will take care, as much as possible, to notify residents in advance of scheduled water shut-offs through the Pine Island Eagle and/or the issuance of "Precautionary Boil Water Notices."
Questions concerning the upgrade and progress may be directed to the GPIWA's main office at 239-283-1071.
