Dr. Watson’s Spirits fundraiser for Pine Island Food Pantry raises $2,265

Dr. Watson's Spirits held a fundraiser to benefit the Pine Island Food Pantry Saturday, March 25. The event raised $2,265 for the pantry, which offers temporary food assistance to residents of the Pine Island area and Matlacha.

Dr. Watson's sold raffle tickets for a chance to purchase a highly sought-after bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 year Lot B Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The winner was Debbie Memoli of St. James City.

In addition, Dr. Watson's had a Chinese auction for an assortment of gift baskets, including a Captain Morgan Loco Nut Pina Colada kit, a Veuve Clicquot gift set, a Tito's Cooler loaded with boating/beach supplies, wine baskets and more.

Hot dogs, chips, cookies and soda were available for all to enjoy. All proceeds were donated to the food pantry.

"We are so excited to be able to be make this donation to the food pantry," said Beth Durling, owner of Dr. Watson's. "We more than doubled our fundraising goal and could not have done it without the support of our employees, our liquor representatives, our friends and family and, most certainly, the Pine Island community!"

Special thanks go to Dr. Watson's employees Rya Snipes, "The Doctor" Gray, Della Durling and Tom Revercomb. Chuck Dietrich of Republic National secured the bottle of Pappy Van Winkle and donated items for gift baskets.

Additional donors include Dan Lambert of Southern Glazer's Wine and Spirits, Mike Jolly of Southern Wine and Spirits Coastal, Doug Loccisano of Tom's Distillery/List Distillery, Peter Busacco of Johnson Brothers, Jeremy Zielinski of Breakthru and Stephen Light of The Cigar Hut Fort Myers Beach.

Additional contributors of time and talent included Cheryl Bredin of Islander Realty, Judi Revercomb, Suzanne Durling, Kathy Russell and Elly Hagen Marketing and Public Relations.

Dr. Watson's, a family-owned business, has been on Pine Island for nearly 34 years. Dr. Watson's is located at 9844 Stringfellow Road in St. James City, next to Winn-Dixie. The store is open Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9: p.m., and Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (seasonal hours).
